Research Description
Gabriele Grosso’s research aims to determine whether molecular vibrations inside solid materials can be used to help control quantum behavior. He will study a newly emerging class of defects in nitride materials that combine light emission, spin, and localized vibrations within a single nanoscale structure. His team will build an experimental platform that combines single-photon spectroscopy, magnetic resonance, and vibrational excitation to measure how those vibrations change light emission, spin relaxation, and spin coherence.
Research Impact
Professor Grosso’s work could clarify whether molecular vibrations in solids can serve as useful quantum resources rather than simply sources of noise. If so, it could point to new ways of designing quantum materials in which light, spin, and vibration are controlled together, with possible applications in quantum information science.
