Research Description

Johannes Pollanen investigates how electrons behave when confined to low-dimensional, disorder-free environments and interact strongly with one another. His research combines superconducting quantum circuits with electrons floating on superfluid helium to create hybrid quantum systems that reveal collective electron dynamics. By developing new experimental platforms with unprecedented sensitivity, Pollanen’s team explores fundamental quantum phenomena and lays the groundwork for faster, more precise, and robust quantum technologies.

Research Impact

Professor Pollanen’s research team creates new experimental tools for probing the behavior of complex quantum systems, enabling insights that were previously inaccessible. By bridging quantum information science and condensed matter physics, his work fosters new collaborations that can open new avenues for discovery. His work also supports the development of hybrid quantum technologies that combine trapped electrons with superconducting circuits for applications in sensing, information processing, and beyond.
