Research Description

Photons, as fundamental carriers of quantum information, possess a diverse range of degrees of freedom and are therefore able to construct a considerably larger high-dimensional Hilbert space for encoding quantum information. Liang Feng’s research explores the full potential of high-dimensional integrated quantum optics to investigate robust chip-scale generation, manipulation, and detection of hyperentanglement — simultaneous entanglement over multiple degrees of freedom, surpassing the confines of qubits for the development of next-generation distributed quantum systems.

Research Impact

Dr. Feng’s research can significantly advance the fundamental principles of quantum entanglement, transcending the constraints imposed by traditional two-level systems. The ability to encode, manipulate, and transmit quantum information using high-dimensional states holds the potential to revolutionize quantum information technologies.
