VitalTalk are champions of communications skills. They believe that effective, empathic and honest conversations between a clinician, patient and their family are the cornerstones of patient-centered care. Through NIH-funded research, VitalTalk has proven that these communication skills are learnable. What’s more, they have discovered that clinicians are eager to learn when using the right method. VitalTalk was founded as a nonprofit aimed at disseminating their research into the real world. Following the lead of social entrepreneurs, they are charting a new route towards a culture change in patient-clinician communication. The foundation is supporting VitalTalk to expand their communications skills trainings so that more clinicians can have timely, meaningful conversations about goals and preferences for care with their seriously ill patients.
