Research Description

David Van Valen studies how living systems and the viruses that infect them process information. His invention, deep learning-enabled optical barcodes, aims to make genetic variations in cells identifiable with imaging. If successful, his invention will dramatically increase the speed and scale at which we can connect genes with behaviors at the cellular level.
