Estimate the impact of cost-inclusive decision aids on the number, timing, duration and quality of cost conversations and their downstream effects on decisional outcomes and adherence to medications

Juan P. Brito, M.D., MSc

Research Description

Estimating the impact of cost-inclusive decision aids on the number, timing, duration and quality of cost conversations and their downstream effects on decisional outcomes and adherence to medications.

Research Impact

Dr. Brito's work uses mixed-methods to estimate the impact of sharing cost information in decision aids in the clinical encounter and their downstream effects on patient engagement, knowledge and satisfaction; clinician satisfaction; and treatment decisions. Through this work, he and his team will characterize cost conversations to identify best practices and determine the impact of these practices on medication adherence. This project will provide valuable information that can be used to develop new interventions or improve upon existing interventions which are sensitive to the important role cost plays in decision making.
