One of the most pressing issues in health care today is the quality and safety of care that people receive. Each year, millions of people suffer from medical errors and tens of thousands die from these errors.

“Improving the diagnostic process is not only possible, it also represents a moral, professional and public health imperative.”

– National Academy of Medicine report: Improving Diagnosis in Health Care

The Moore Foundation aims to support growth and capacity in this field – preparing leaders dedicated to working on the issue of diagnostic excellence. With foundation support, the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) recently announced the launch of the NAM Scholars in Diagnostic Excellence program. This new project, in partnership with the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), will support up to 10 scholars in a one-year, part-time remote experience to enhance the scholars’ knowledge and skills in diagnostic quality and safety, and accelerate their career development toward becoming national leaders in the field.

The program will support scholars who are committed to and passionate about diagnostic excellence, and will work to address the gaps in research and information on improving diagnosis now and into the future.
