Located in west central Colorado, Delta County encompasses 1,157 square miles, housing more than 30,000 residents in five communities. The county’s school district was consolidated in 1950 and includes 20 schools and the Delta-Montrose Technical College, which offers postsecondary vocational training. In addition to traditional public elementary, middle and high schools, the district includes a K-8 Montessori, K-12 public charter, high school for at-risk learners and several preschools.
The district offers specialized programs in agriculture, technology, special education and vocational learning, including training nurse aides, as well as a wide variety of academic, extracurricular and athletic programming. Approximately 350 classroom and special education teachers and 350 support staff work across the district to serve its almost 5,000 students.
