Scientists at the WCS recently discovered more than 1,000 butterfly varieties in Bolivia’s Madidi National Park. Scientists counted 1,080 butterfly varieties in the park (which is roughly the size of New Jersey). This new count of butterfly species, which came from a combination of fieldwork and literature reviews, nearly triples the previous tally for the park of 348 species and an additional seven subspecies.
