Biography
Sasha Abrams is an experienced foundation leader specializing in private foundation law. Her areas of legal expertise include advising on the laws and regulations applicable to private foundations, intellectual property, good governance, and ethics.
As the general counsel for the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, she handles a broad range of legal matters affecting the foundation, and serves as secretary to the board and chief compliance officer. She also serves on the foundation’s executive committee.
Sasha is a frequent national speaker on legal topics such as private foundation law, international grantmaking, nonprofit risk management, and ethics and compliance. She is the co-author of several online legal courses on private foundation law available at www.learnfoundationlaw.org, including courses on lobbying and advocacy, expenditure responsibility, and working with government officials.
Previously, Sasha worked at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, where she represented public agencies in municipal bond financings, and in the corporate securities practice at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati.
Sasha earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University, with honors, and her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. She is admitted to practice law in California. Sasha is also a trained leadership coach and mother of three.
Sasha is an advisor to the National Center for Philanthropy and the Law at NYU, and is a member of the Council on Foundation’s Ethics Task Force. She is board chair emeritus of Silicon Valley Shakespeare.
