Biography

Mauricio serves as senior advisor at Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Conservation and Markets Initiative.

With an executive career spanning more than 20 years of corporate experience in agricultural commodities in the United States, Australia and Brazil, both in the private sector and in non-governmental organizations, Mauricio brings a deep understanding of the fundamentals of competitive market positioning, multi-stakeholder engagement and negotiation processes, working on building consensus and providing strategic coordination.

He has worked to reduce complexities and lower costs associated with implementing commitments to catalyze production and supply decoupled from environmental conversion across multiple sectors, promoting tactical direction and guidance to influence positive actions by various industry segments and actors, including business platforms and multi-sector initiatives in multiple agricultural commodities value chains.

Prior to serving as head of corporate sustainability at JBS Brazil, where he led the sustainability strategy in the country in line with the company's global goals and commitments, he served as senior director of beef and leather supply chains at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Washington DC.

Mauricio led projects in partnership with NGOs, private sector and universities, with an emphasis on strategies and solutions for the sustainable production of agricultural commodities, process improvement, innovation and technology.

In addition to WWF, Mauricio has worked for the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) in the United States, being directly involved in the development and execution of the organization's strategies related to beef, leather, palm oil and soy. In the private sector, he spent several years in Australia in the late 2000’s in executive roles.

Mauricio is certified in Environmental Leadership by the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine as well as in Agronomy.
