Biography

Catherine (Cathy) Mader joined the foundation in 2021 as a program officer for the Experimental Physics Investigator Initiative.

Cathy received her Ph.D. in nuclear physics from Michigan State University and has been on the physics faculty at Hope College since 1993. She conducted theoretical nuclear physics research with undergraduates, taught many physics courses, and served in leadership roles on national-scale projects with the American Physical Society, NSF Physics REU Site Directors Leadership Group, American Institute of Physics, Council of Undergraduate Research, and Society of Physics Students.

Cathy also led activities related to access and equity in STEM education as the director of the Hope College HHMI-award education program, as well as a research communities program funded by the Herbert and Grace Dow Foundation. Most recently, Cathy served on the leadership team developing the APS-led NSF INCLUDES Alliance: Inclusive Graduate Education Network; leading operations of this national program. In this role, Cathy facilitated the collaboration of numerous network members and managed alliance programs.
