Biography
Carly Besh supports the Conservation and Markets Initiative at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, where she manages operational workflows, financial systems, and grantmaking functions to ensure efficient and impactful initiative operations.
Before joining the foundation, Carly served as a Project Manager at Backroads, where she led cross-functional and global teams to implement key initiatives, including Workday system deployments for payroll, benefits, and talent optimization across multiple countries. Her contributions streamlined processes and supported organizational growth. Prior to this, Carly worked in the U.S. Senate as a Legislative Aide, specializing in Ocean and Outdoor Recreation portfolios.
Carly earned a Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from Franklin University Switzerland, where she also minored in social justice and sustainability, and Italian studies. She holds a certification in project management from eCornell. Carly’s international experience includes studying Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan as a National Security Language Initiative for Youth Scholarship recipient and spending an academic year in Thailand as a Rotary Youth Exchange student.
Carly’s diverse background also includes roles in outdoor recreation and education. One of her most rewarding experiences was supporting Skiku, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching cross-country skiing to Alaska Native youth and rural communities as a wellness initiative.
Currently residing in Stanford, California, Carly enjoys spending her free time recreating outdoors, international travel, and volunteering with local organizations.
