With funding from the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara, researchers including Boris Worm of Dalhousie University and Ray Hilborn of the University of Washington have found that sound fisheries management can successfully rebuild fish stocks. The paper was published in the July 31 issue of Science.
A related grant to NCEAS from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation supported the training of graduate students to evaluate the status and trends of marine fisheries and ecosystems, helping bridge the intellectual divide between marine ecologists and fisheries biologists.
