Instituto Floresta Tropical (Tropical Forest Institute) is a Brazilian nongovernmental organization that promotes the adoption of good forest management practices in the Amazon region. Founded in 2002 and based in Belem, Para, the institute was originally part of the Tropical Forest Foundation.
The institute’s programs are focused in the following areas: capacity building and training, forest extension, forestry research, and community and family forest management. The Roberto Bauch Training Center in Forest Management, located in Paragominas, provides educational opportunities and demonstrations in forest management and reduced impact logging. The institute also publishes its technical research and strategic studies.
