Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, a grassroots-based conservation organization, was established in 1963. It is the only national organization devoted exclusively to protecting Canada's wilderness heritage and has helped protect over 400,000 square kilometers of threatened areas across the country. The British Columbia chapter, based in Vancouver, was founded in 1979 and is one of 13 chapters across Canada.
The society’s goal is to protect at least 50 percent of Canada's wilderness and oceans, and create large, meaningful protected areas with ecological strength—places that can nurse nature through climate change and shelter biodiversity indefinitely. The organization works closely with provincial, federal and First Nations governments to achieve its goal and also sponsors various programs to strengthen Canadians’ connection to nature.
