Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Based in Quito, Fondo Ambiental Nacional was formed in 1996 to support the financing of environmental management projectsaimed at sustainable development in Ecuador.
The fund works with the Ecuadorian government, local government, multilateral cooperation organizations, bilateral cooperation organizations, and international nongovernmental organizations, diversifying funding sources for public protected areas and securing stable, long-term financial resources for protected areas and watersheds. The fund also includes work such as the Socio Bosque Program, which preserves the remnants of native forests and other important ecosystems of Ecuador, reducing deforestation rates and greenhouse gas emissions while improving the living conditions of rural people.
