Henry’s Fork Foundation was established in 1984 and is based in Ashton, Idaho. The organization’s purpose is to conserve, protect and restore the unique fisheries, wildlife and aesthetic qualities of Henry's Fork, a tributary river of the Snake River in southeastern Idaho and its watershed. Named for fur trader Andrew Henry, Henry’s Fork is a fly fishing river that has been highlighted as the top dry fly river in the United States.
The organization’s more than 100 research and restoration projects have provided a scientific basis for management and decision-making in the area’s watershed. The foundation works cooperatively with federal and state agencies, academia and nonprofit organizations to develop, fund and complete projects. In addition, the foundation works collaboratively with hydroelectric power companies, irrigators and state and federal water managers to ensure that river flows benefit wild trout to the greatest extent possible while meeting state-allocated water rights.
Henry’s Fork Foundation also offers education and outreach programs, internships, scholarships, annual awards and the Ambassadors of the River Program, which provides guides for local and visiting anglers alike.
