Future Generations is located in Franklin, West Virginia, and was founded in 1992 as an action-oriented, civil society organization to teach and enable a process of equitable community change that integrates environmental conservation with development.
Future Generations engages community and government partnerships, and raises the capacity of people to create locally appropriate solutions. The organization partners with communities and governments in six countries—Afghanistan, China, Haiti, India, Peru and the United States. Its community-driven processes have resulted in the creation of a large nature preserve in Tibet, the extension of health services through maternal and child health programs in Peru and the development of programs to aid countries rebounding from conflict, as in Afghanistan.
With the goal of increasing the effectiveness of community change practitioners around the world, the Future Generations Graduate School was founded in 2003 and provides master's degrees in applied community change with concentrations in conservation and peacebuilding.
