Chartered by Congress in 1967, the National Park Foundation is the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service. The foundation raises private funds that directly aid, support and enrich America’s more than 400 national parks and their programs.
The foundation’s work is divided into three distinct, yet interdependent, areas of focus: to protect national parks through conservation and preservation efforts; to connect all Americans with the natural landscapes, culture, history and community work of the National Park Service; and to inspire lifelong engagement with the next generation of park stewards. Programs range from restoring 6,600 acres of the Everglades and creating the American Latino Heritage Fund to preserve and protect the rich legacy and history of American Latino culture, to bringing over 30,000 students to national parks in a year through the Ticket to Ride program.
The National Park Foundation also works to help start, grow and improve the operations of Friends Groups, which are individual nonprofit organizations that support a specific national park, through direct support, coaching, consulting, webinars, and tool development and conferences.
