Founded in 1987, the Botanical Research Institute of Texas is an international scientific research and learning center focused on conservation and knowledge sharing. The Fort Worth-based organization documents the diversity of plant life and conducts extensive research around the world. The institute houses one of the largest herbariums in the United States as well as a sizeable library with more than 125,000 volumes. .

Serving both as a think tank and a catalyst, the institute uses botanical solutions to address global problems, ranging from pollution clean-up to fostering sustainable food sources, and fosters opportunities for collaboration between researchers to create a better understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and preservation of plant diversity. In the last ten years, its scientists have located and described scores of species previously unknown to science. The organization’s educational efforts link global issues to local experience by educating the public about the importance of biodiversity and sustaining the environment.
