Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
The Sociedad Peruana de Derecho Ambiental was founded in 1986 to advance environmental policy in Peru. The organization facilitates the effective implementation of regulations and standards, defends the public interest and participates in technical and political dialogue around environmental and economic sustainability. Recognizing the role of regional and municipal government in sustainable practices, the Sociedad works through four decentralized offices across Peru in Lima, Loreto, Madre de Dios and Amazonas.
The Sociedad protects natural areas and agricultural biodiversity through conservation and environmental compensation strategies. It advocates for sound and transparent governance, pursuing legislation, network building and cooperative agreements to strengthen the civil sector and rights of indigenous communities. It empowers citizens and institutions to understand and execute environmental policy through case studies and research papers, legal clinics and monitoring activities. It also conducts social responsibility training for businesses and other stakeholders to support public and private investments in environmental solutions. Areas of specialty include water, protected areas, biofuels, climate change, oil and hydroelectric policy.
