Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
With a history dating to 1226, the University of Cambridge is one of the world’s oldest universities. Today more than 18,000 undergraduate and graduate students from all corners of the world live, eat and socialize in one of 31 autonomous colleges located throughout the city in the United Kingdom. Academic studies are organized into six schools that include arts and humanities, biological sciences, clinical medicine, humanities and social sciences, physical sciences and technology. A central administration team supports university operations, but each college and school is self-governing with its own statues and regulations.
In addition to education and research activities within the six schools, the university has identified a number of cross-cutting strategic initiatives which range from cancer and cardiovascular disease to big data, neuroscience, synthetic biology and global food security. Cambridge faculty provide academic leadership in each area, and the university develops partnerships with other institutions and industry representatives to advance research and impact.
