Founded in 1979, the Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM), is a not-for-profit, professional research organization of approximately 1,000 members worldwide. They promote scientific and methodological rigor in health care decision research and its application to health policy and clinical care. They promote an analytic, transdisciplinary, integrated approach to health care decision making in an inspiring, energizing, respectful, collegial, and friendly learning environment.
SMDM aims to advance medical decision-making research and practice to improve health outcomes. Members work together with patients, clinicians, researchers, policy-makers and the public to improve the quality, patient-centeredness, and value of health decisions.
