The East Bay Regional Park District is located east of San Francisco, spanning Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Established in 1934, the district works to maintain a diverse system of interconnected parklands, balancing public use and education with natural and cultural resource protection and preservation. The system includes 65 parks on 119,000 acres of land and more than 1,250 miles of trails.

Hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, fishing and archery are available for park users. Programming includes free outdoor movie nights; classes on kayaking, fishing and biking; and summer day camps for children. Naturalist events teach visitors about park history and local natural resources. Field trips, mobile education programs and a new third grade curriculum on the local Ohlone people help schools engage with park resources and use the outdoor environments for student exploration and study.
