Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Launched in 1848, the American Association for the Advancement of Science was the first national organization formed to promote science and engineering. In addition to publishing the monthly magazine Science, the organization focuses on science policy, diplomacy, education, career support and public engagement.
The association provides an array of print and online resources for industry professionals, educators, students, journalists and the public to advance understanding and application of science principles and research. Additionally, it supports fellowship programs to bring graduate and post-graduate level science, engineering and mathematics leaders into the policy and journalism realms. For example, the organization has placed Ph.D.-level science and technology fellows in high-level government departments such as the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to infuse new and innovative thinking into public operations and decision-making.
