Foundation president, Harvey Fineberg, and chairman emeritus and co-founder, Gordon Moore, discuss the Statement of Founders’ Intent with staff.
Located in Smithers, British Columbia, the Bulkley Valley Research Centre was founded in 2002 with the purpose of providing the science required for sustainable resource management. The Canadian organization creates learning and extension opportunities for both members and the northern British Columbian community through workshops, conferences and other networking events, and supports the community by promoting the region and investing locally.
Research initiatives involve collaboration among a range of groups involved in natural resource management including industry, government, First Nations, academic institutions and conservation organizations. Areas of research are divided into three areas: biophysical, which focuses on the junction of the coastal, transitional and interior environments that surround the valley; cultural, which centers on community engagement with aboriginal cultures; and resource management, which addresses the vast natural resources of northern British Columbia.
