To provide support for research in the laboratory of investigator Dr. Jennifer B.H. Martiny on the structure and evolution of marine microbial diversity. Outcomes for this grant include understanding the diversity and distribution of Synechococcus and the cyanophage (viruses) that infect them examining the coevolution of marine Synechococcus and cyanophage, and determining whether diversity statistics provide a reliable ranking of the diversity of aquatic microbial samples.
