Popular Science recently highlighted a virtual reality experience from Stanford University’s Virtual Human Interaction Lab, that aims to give “travelers” an in-depth view of climate change. The goal of the project is to give people a very real experience, and help them understand in a visceral way how climate change is affecting oceans.

The project aims to teach the science behind ocean acidification – show people a deteriorating ocean ecosystem, explain how their behavior may contribute to it, and motivate them to get involved and make a change.

“The idea is to spur action with knowledge,” said Jeremy Bailenson, professor of communication at Stanford University and director of the Virtual Human Interaction Lab. “We really stuck to the science.”
