A new study published in Health Affairs confirms that increased levels of patient engagement through patient activation do actually improve health outcomes and result in lower health care costs. More than 32,000 adult patients took part in the longest longitudinal study of its kind. Conducted over the course of two years at Fairview Health Services, using the Patient Activation Measure, researchers found that people more activated demonstrated nine of 13 improved health outcomes.
