Dogfish is one of the most common fish found in the waters off the East Coast, but not many in the United States are eating it. Instead, it’s being exported, while most of the seafood consumed in the U.S. — like salmon, tuna and shrimp — has been imported.

Sustainable seafood advocates at the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance want to encourage people to re-think their fish eating habits, and remain open minded to fish caught off our own shores. Additionally the Environmental Defense Fund has recently launched a campaign called “Eat These Fish,” highlighting several plentiful, but lesser-known fish caught in U.S. waters.
