For the past decade, our Betty Irene Moore Nursing Initiative has focused on engaging nurses to improve patient care. Part of this focus included strengthening the nursing workforce. From the start, we saw and began addressing a nursing shortfall in California and the need to better prepare nurses for an increasingly more complex and technologically-advanced work environment.

A new video illuminates stories from many of the schools of nursing, faculty and nurses we worked with to transform the skills of RNs and the quality of care delivered in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through our work we 1) trained and funded more RN educators, 2) expanded pre-licensure programs through new, innovative models and 3) increased the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical training opportunities. Some of the results include all San Francisco Bay Area schools of nursing enhancing their curricula with quality and safety content and designing and developing the Centralized Clinical Placement System, an online platform that matches nursing school students with clinical placement opportunities.
