Each summer, aquatic and fishery sciences professor and foundation grantee Daniel Schindler along with his students travel to Bristol Bay, Alaska to observe one of the most valuable fisheries in the world. Daniel helps lead the Alaska Salmon Program, a 70-year effort to monitor salmon and their ecosystems at a suite of field camps in southwestern Alaska. This program provides important contributions to the foundation’s Wild Salmon Ecosystem Initiative.
In advance of the 2016 Bristol Bay sockeye salmon run, Daniel gave an inside look at the impact of the program. See the full story from the University of Washington here.
