The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation (www.moore.org) today announced the appointment of George W. Bo-Linn, MD as the new chief program officer for its San Francisco Bay Area Program. The Foundation's San Francisco Bay Area Program includes the Betty Irene Moore Nursing Initiative, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis Commitment, and areas of focus including Land Protection and Science and Technology Museums.

Bo-Linn is a dynamic professional with vast experience as clinician, researcher, and as a senior executive. He has proven expertise in clinical research, private practice, integrated network development, clinical service integration, strategic planning, information systems, managed care contracting, physician leadership development, quality improvement, and medical management within an integrated delivery system and network of physician-hospital organizations.

Most recently Bo-Linn was the senior vice president and chief medical officer at Catholic Healthcare West, the largest non-profit hospital system in the western United States. His responsibilities included all aspects of clinical quality, patient safety and satisfaction, risk management, resource utilization management, clinical information systems (including privacy and security), and healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and others). He was also the Chief Medical Officer, Unity Health System, St. Louis, Missouri, and the Physician Leader, Sisters of Mercy Health System-St. Louis, Inc. (SMHS), Information Architecture Council, among other senior positions. He is the author of numerous scientific publications, lectures extensively nationally and internationally, and serves on several boards of national healthcare organizations.
Bo-Linn holds a B.A. from Rice University, and an M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine. His residency in internal medicine was at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, gastroenterology. He also had a subspecialty fellowship at the University of Texas; post-fellowship training at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Germany; and received his Masters of Healthcare Administration at the Carlson School of Business, University of Minnesota.
