The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation (www.moore.org) today announced the appointment of Denise Strack as the Chief Investment Officer for its $6 billion investments portfolio. Denise Strack, previously the Foundation’s Director of Private Equity and Real Assets portfolio, succeeds Alice Ruth.
“Denise has served an invaluable and key role in the Foundation’s private equity and real assets investments portfolio,” said Steven J. McCormick, President, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. “Her appointment as CIO was a unanimous decision of the Investment Management Committee and the Foundation’s Board. Denise’s familiarity with the portfolio and her investment acumen and experience ensure a seamless transition and continued success of the portfolio.”
Ken Siebel, Chairman of Private Wealth Partners, Foundation Board Trustee, and Chairman of the Foundation’s Investment Management Committee, states, “Over the last six years Denise has demonstrated exceptional investment competence and her asset classes have been a key driver of the Foundation's strong investment performance. She has been instrumental in building the reputation of the Foundation’s investment operations and has been highly successful in providing the Foundation access to premier manager relationships. I am confident that Denise, along with her investment team, will prudently manage the assets of the Foundation in her new role as CIO. Our Investment Management Committee is very much looking forward to working with Denise."
Strack joined the Foundation in 2002 as the Director of Private Equity and Real Assets. She built the portfolio which now includes a robust manager roster and accounts for over 21% of the Foundation’s assets. Strack previously worked under the guidance of outgoing CIO, Alice Ruth. “Alice and I have worked together for years, and she has been a great mentor for me. We have an exceptional team in place, which has laid the groundwork for sustainable investment performance and continuity for the Foundation. I am very excited and honored to follow Alice in her role as CIO of the Foundation and I am looking forward to continuing the legacy she created,” said Ms. Strack.
Strack will lead an investment team that includes the support of seasoned directors including Lynda Sullivan, the Director of Public Equities, and Dale Kunkel, the Director of Hedge Fund Strategies.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Strack served as Director of Private Equity at Stanford Management Company where she oversaw investments in private and long-biased public equity relationships. Previously, she held the position of engagement manager at McKinsey & Company in its private equity and financial services practices group. Strack holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an M.B.A. both from Stanford University.
