The National Academy of Sciences announced today the election of 84 new members and 21 foreign associates in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.

Congratulations to foundation grantees Stephen Palumbi, Stanford Univerity and Krishna Nyogi, University of California, Berkeley for being recognized with this important honor!

Also receiving recognition was Hopi Hoekstra, Harvard University, an external adviser in the Marine Microbiology Initiative's experimental model systems portfolio; and John Eiler, California Institute of Technology, who is a co-principal investigator with Victoria Orphan on a grant relating to laboratory approaches that can be transferred to the marine environment.
