Vera serves as the foundation’s learning officer, working as part of the Adaptive Measurement and Evaluation team to develop and implement the foundation’s organizational learning strategy, promote continuous improvement in its core activities and inform strategic decision-making.
In her previous role as director of evaluation and research, Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning at Stanford University, Vera brought a learning sciences approach to guiding direction in faculty development, instruction, curriculum and policy. For 15 years prior, Vera served as a director of research at SRI’s Center for Technology in Learning, working with diverse foundation, government, corporate and NGO clients to meet their evaluation and learning needs as part of initiatives and programs worldwide, primarily in the area of STEM education.
Vera has served on several National Research Council committees and panels, has advised numerous innovative research efforts in the field of informal learning and sits on the boards of science museums and other educational organizations. Vera holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology/anthropology from Stanford, with an Ed.M. in human development from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a bachelors from the film and media department at University of California, Berkeley.
