International Marine Protection and Management Capacity

This grant supports a National Academy of Sciences survey aimed at identifying barriers to the effective management of coastal and marine resources, particularly in the developing world. The Academy's Ocean Studies Board will review past and current efforts to develop and implement marine conservation policies in developing nations. The survey will lead to recommendations on ways in which the United States, working in partnership with others, can help strengthen the marine protection and management capacity of these nations. Outcomes for this grant include recommendations for strengthening international marine protection and management capacity.
