Nurse leaders bring a spirit of collaboration along with the skills and confidence to inspire others. They know how to enact change, challenge the status quo, and take ideas to scale that advance high quality, high value care and optimal health outcomes.

The Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators is a national program to develop the next generation of nurse leaders and innovators. The program recognizes and advances early- to mid-career nursing scholars and innovators with high potential to accelerate leadership in nursing-science research, practice, education, policy and entrepreneurship. Betty Irene Moore Nurse Fellows develop skills and confidence in leadership and innovation improving health care delivery and advancing health.

Fellows from the first two cohorts have already achieved great success in their areas of focus. Earlier this year, the inaugural fellows welcomed the second cohort of nurse leaders in an online convocation. The event aimed to build community and foster connection among the fellows, program faculty and the Fellowship National Advisory Council.

Projects from the most recent cohort range from research on midlife women’s health and the interface between reproductive aging and chronic disease, to an effort to reduce breastfeeding disparities in vulnerable populations, to the study of HIV disparities in historically marginalized and vulnerable populations. These projects have deep importance to the communities they support, and have great potential for benefiting health care of the future.

Applications are now open for the 2022 cohort of 10 nurse leader and innovator fellows from eligible organizations. The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. PST December 1.
