A new community resource for comparing complex microbial gene expression patterns

In support of developing and expanding access to a new tool (PhyloMetarep) to allow the marine microbial ecology research community to quantify and compare the gene expression patterns of marine microeukaryotes. The tool enables researchers to compare, analyze, and visualize the complex gene expression patterns of marine microeukaryotes.

Abstract:

The Marine Microbial Eukaryotic Transcriptome Sequencing Project (MMETSP) (http://marinemicroeukaryotes.org/) has generated 678 transcriptomes from hundreds of diverse organisms. Phylometarep is a derivation of Metarep, which is a high-performance comparative genomics web portal. Metarep is being refashioned into Phylometarep specifically for the purpose of hosting data generated through the MMTESP project. Phylometarep will provide a taxonomic framework for comparing gene content and gene expression within and between libraries. All of the transcriptomes will be combined into a comprehensive genomic database called PhyloDB. Access to Phylometarep and associated annotations will be made available through PhyloDB.
