Sequencing the Tasmanian Devil

This grant will be used by Pennsylvania State University (Penn State University) to support the "Save the Devil" breeding Project. The Tasmanian Devil is under threat of extinction due to an unusual highly infectious facial tumor. The goal of the grant is to generate a draft version of the Tasmanian Devil genome (DNA sequence. This information will be used by scientists and nature conservationists to tackle the cause, route and ultimate prevention of this devastating infectious cancer and to reestablish the Tasmanian Devil population.
