Mark
Stalzer, Ph.D.

Data Science Fellow

Mark is assisting the foundation's Data-Driven Discovery Initiative with the goal of accelerating scientific discovery in the emerging era of big data. He is also a visiting faculty member in computing and mathematical sciences at the California Institute of Technology. 

Previously, Mark was the executive director of the Center for Advanced Computing Research at Caltech and the director of the Information Sciences Lab at the Hughes Research Laboratories. At Hughes Mark led a group that advanced the state of the art in electromagnetic scattering calculations and was elected as an Association for Computing Machinery distinguished scientist for the work. At Caltech he was the co-principal investigator and executive director of the Predictive Science Center and the co-director of the Center for the Integrative Study of Cell Regulation. 

Mark has a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Southern California and a B.S. in mathematical physics and computer science from the California State University, Northridge. He is also a graduate of the Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles. 

Mark is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
