Program Fellow, Marine Microbiology Initiative
Emiley is the program fellow for the Marine Microbiology Initiative.
Prior to joining the foundation, Emiley was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Genome Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is a broadly trained microbial ecologist, with expertise in the generation and analysis of high-throughput, next-generation sequencing datasets derived from aquatic and human-associated microbial communities. As a graduate researcher, Emiley was jointly funded as a Lewis and Clark Field Scholar by the American Philosophical Society and the NASA Astrobiology Institute for her work to investigate the microbial diversity within the Puerto Rico Trench. Emiley has also served as an associate member of the Faculty of 1000.
Emiley earned a B.S. in biochemistry and cell biology at the University of California, San Diego and a Ph.D. in marine biology at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
